[Well, Belthazar had banked on Eithan wearing red and black and it seems he was right. They match a little. His expression brightens as he looks up and sees him.]
Oh, hardly. [He snaps his journal shut and magics it away somewhere, and then he moves to take one of Eithan's hands in both of his.] I've only been here a few minutes.
I hope this boat is adequate. I don't do a lot of... boating. [There's a big picnic basket waiting for them, too, but he doesn't say what's inside. Lots of delicious food, most likely.]
I hope the view's worth all the trouble. It is really cold out here.
[ Belth calls attention to the boat, and Eithan looks - not that he has any clue if there's something in particular he should be looking for, but it's... really elegant, small as it is. He doesn't ]
Heh, I also don't do a lot of boatin', but I'm sure this one's more than adequate. [ He grins, gives Belth's hand a small squeeze before he lets go and steps closer to the boat. ] Go ahead and get in and I'll push us off, yeah>?
[ That's how rowboats work, right? He's aware that odds are he's gonna embarrass himself at least once tonight, but he'd rather it not be right off the bat. ]
[That little hand squeeze lifts his spirits visibly. He's always a little nervous about this kind of thing, but Eithan is home and safety. He's happy to just soak in his presence no matter what they're doing.]
All right. [Delicately, he lifts one leg and then another to get inside the boat, and smooths his dress beneath him as he takes a seat. This is great. They'll be able to hold hands and look disgustingly at each other while the stars twinkle above them.
Once they've pushed out onto the water, Belth gets curious and starts turning his head this way and that, and he leans over a little so he can draw his fingers through the glowing water.]
[ And by some miracle, Eithan manages to push them off and then get in the boat himself without falling into the water, or something else equally as awful! He absolutely considers that a win, thanks. He grabs the oar and starts rowing - no way in particular, especially since he's mostly looking up at the stars, bright and plentiful out here away from any village lights. ]
It really is... no wonder everyone said to come out here. [ He smiles at Belth. ] Imagine what it'll be like at midnight.

it's ok i'm bad at tagging back in a timely manner
[Belth straightens up a bit and gently flicks some cold water off his fingers, toward the side of the boat and not his boyfriend. It's too cold for that.]
Like this, but with the moon up a few degrees more?
[He laughs a little and pats the basket.]
I figured we could have a little something to eat before the show starts, so whenever you think we're in a good spot we can dig in. I brought some fizzy wine, too. Normally I don't partake at all, but this is apparently sweet enough that I don't have to disguise it at all.
[ How considerate~ there can be water wars on a planet that's not stupidly cold. ]
Mm, here's a pretty good place, I think. [ He puts the oar down, carefully stands and moves to sit closer to Belth. ] Fizzy wine sounds pretty great, too. Been a while since I had any... Ari's birthday, maybe? [ SHRUG. ]
I still can't believe you put all this stuff together for us. Heh, I feel kinda bad I didn't help.
[Belth shifts a little closer too. He's happiest when cuddling, especially with what he's wearing.]
I don't do wine very much-- mostly it's too bitter-- but I don't mind breaking it out for special occasions.
And don't worry about not helping me. You and I both know this is my area of expertise, here-- were it some kind of music date I fully trust you to arrange things as you like them.
[He smiles as he neatly opens the basket and arranges the food. The first to come out are toasted pastries, smelling of divine cheese and prosciutto. Then there's a bowl of salad with vinaigrette, a container of warm pasta in a spicy garlicky sauce, and a bottle of wine that he pours two glasses from. Of course, he touches the outside of the bottle first to make sure it's cold.]
